** NOTICE: Starting May 1st, 2026, fares will increase by $1. **
We want to give our community advance notice that most Brookings Area Transit Authority (BATA) fares will increase by $1 per ride beginning May 1.
Like all South Dakota rural transit systems, the temporary federal funding we received during COVID has now been exhausted — resulting in about a 10% reduction in federal support — while operating costs continue to rise.
This wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s necessary to keep service reliable and available for everyone who depends on us.

Online Reservations will be entered Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 6:00pm.
Rides outside of Brookings, Volga, and Aurora must be scheduled by phone. Please call dispatch- 605-692-2222.
FARES - Please schedule your ride at least 1 business day ahead of time.
$3 per ride in Brookings city limits
$9 per ride (same day reservation)
$8 per ride OUTSIDE city limits
$5 per ride Volga and Aurora to/from Brookings
$40 per ride to Sioux Falls - round trip (pre-scheduled)
